SYSTEMS - MOBILE EQUIPMENT
Mobile Equipment Fire Suppression Systems are designed to suppress the fires that occur in the engine compartments and associated areas of mobile vehicles. Each system is uniquely designed based on the engine, hydraulic fluid, oil, and combustion fuel configurations and quantities to create a system that suppresses the fire.
Mobile Equipment Fire Suppression Systems always use a dry chemical and sometimes additionally use a Liquid chemical on very large equipment as its fire suppressant(s). These systems are activated by automatic or manual means.
The primary goal of these systems is to get the operators and passengers off of the vehicles in a safe manner, with the secondary goal to extinguish the fire on the vehicle.
The primary fire hazards of Mobile Equipment are; highly flammable fuels, oils and hydraulic fluids. Along with the Mobile Equipment Fire Suppression System, the total system design must include a hand portable fire extinguisher(s) located on board the vehicle that can be used for the safe egress of operator & passengers or to manually suppress a fire that may be burning in an unprotected area.
