SYSTEMS - VEHICLE

Vehicles and heavy mobile equipment have special fire risks related to fuel and hydraulic systems. Alternative fuels introduce a higher level of fire risks for vehicles such as buses, which require engine-compartment protection.

Heavy off-road vehicles have a high fire risk and a need to protect the operator who often does not have a safe escape route. The fire risks are associated with the fuel and hydraulic fluid leaks. Ignition is quick and unexpected once any of these substances come into contact with any of the many hot surfaces located on these operating pieces of equipment. Other risks are associated with electrical systems. Tires provide an additional source of fuel.

Vehicle Systems are designed and tested for many types of equipment. The systems consist of a fire detection system, typically responding to heat, storage containers of the extinguishing agent, and a distribution system to areas of greatest fire risks.
